Cattle numbers remained steady this week, with 1155 head listed which was a decrease of 277 head. Clearance also remained steady sitting at 88 per cent.
Weaned steers weighing up to 300kg averaged 280c and sold to a top of 297c. From Rolleston, Consuelo Cattle Company offered a line of 106 weaned Santa Gertrudis steers which returned the top price. These steers are aged 9-12 months and weigh 275kgs. From the same vendor, a line of 71 Santa weaned steers returned 294c or $810. These steers also weigh 275kgs and are 9-12 months. Also, a younger line of 67 Santa weaner steers returned 294c or $600. These steers are 7-9 months and weigh 204kgs.
DJ & DD Elder, Goondiwindi offered a line of 80 weaned Shorthorn steers which returned 283c or $710. These steers weigh 250kgs and are 11-12 months old. The vendor also offered a line of 40 weaned steers which sold for 269c or $785. These Shorthorn steers are also 11-12 months and weigh 290kgs. Also, at Goondiwindi, Brazil Enterprises offered a line of 68 Angus weaned steers which achieved 280c. These steers are 9-12 months and weigh 297kgs, and PCAS eligible.
Weaned heifers weighing up to 300kg averaged 220c and sold to a top of 229c. The top price was achieved by two different lines both from Goondiwindi. Tanami Partnership offered a line of 26 Poll Hereford/Angus weaned heifers which returned 229c or $670. These heifers are 10-11 months and weigh 291kgs. Wynhari Partnership offered a line of 62 Santa/Shorthorn Cross heifers which returned 229c or $630. These heifers are 9-11 months and weigh 274kgs. Cressaire Pastoral, Goondiwindi offered a line of 29 weaned Angus cross heifers which returned 201c or $390. These heifers are 7-11 months and weigh 193kgs.
PTIC cows were popular this week, averaging $1459. The top price went to a line of 10 Santa Gertrudis cows from Winton, a/c Ian Mitchell & Co. These cows are 3-9 years of age, PTIC to Santa bulls and returned $2150. The vendor offered six lots, each consisting of 10 PTIC Eyriewald Stud cows, and achieved 100pc clearance across these lots, to achieve an average price of $1966. Monklands Cattle Co, Alpha offered four lots of Charbray/Brahman cross PTIC cows and achieved an average price of $698. These cows were aged 3-10 years, weigh 392kgs and are in calf to Charbray, Droughtmaster, Limousin and Brangus bulls.
Sheep numbers dropped significantly, with 3904 head on offer, a drop of 3966 head from last week. The impact of a tough season was apparent this week, with poor clearance rates across the Queensland offering.
From Winton, Koondi Grazing offered a line of 880 Merino ewes which returned $58. These ewes are seven years old and based on Mt Ascot and Barcaldine Downs bloodlines. Weighing 44kgs, these ewes are non-station mated and shorn in July 2018.
JH & RG Banks, Blackall offered a line of 700 woolgrower wethers which returned $88. These Merino wethers weigh 42kgs and are bred from Pemcaw and Towalba bloodlines and were shorn in June 2018.
