IT IS the second year the Theodore Early Childhood Centre will raise much-needed funds with a rodeo, and with the event comes a great community initiative – the celebrity steer ride.
Held on September 1, the Theodore's Xtreme 1 Servo Bulls N Barrels Bonanza is sure to pull another great crowd after last year’s incredibly successful event.
Check out the local celebrities braving the steer ride this year – all in the name of raising funds.
AT home Jane Conway, Waynoc, Theodore, may be a busy mum of three with a cattle and cropping property, but on September 1 she will become a celebrity steer rider – if only for the night.
Q: How did you get involved in the steer ride?
Rob Wilson, Lagoona, Theodore, chickened out so I had to take his place. I’m also the president of TECCA (Theodore Early Childhood Centre Association) at the moment so I help run the rodeo and I just kind of got roped into it.
Q: What are you most worried about?
Getting hurt.
Q: What are you most excited about?
Just ticking it off like a bucket list type thing. I’ve never done it before – I’ve never even ridden a horse before, so I have no experience. I grew up in Brisbane so it’s so far out from everything I’ve ever done.
Q: Who is your money on to win?
Henry Hinds.
HENRY Hinds may spend most of his days in the paddock, but the young Theodore dad has taken one for the team and volunteered to be part of the fundraising rodeo.
Q: How did you get involved in the steer ride?
I have two kids, one goes to playgroup and the other one is in kindy and Anna (wife) is involved.
Q: What are you most worried about?
Nothing really I guess.
Q: What are you most excited about?
The kids will probably think it’s pretty neat.
Q: Who is your money on to win?
Bobbi Joyce.
SHE’S a businesswoman with a commercial cattle operation and a diesel fitting business, a mum and a wife, but on September 1 Bobbi Joyce will become one of Theodore’s celebrity steer riders.
Q: How did you get involved in the steer ride?
My children go to TECCA and I somehow got roped it – I’m unsure if it’s a good idea or a bad idea.
Q: What are you most worried about?
I have to at least last one buck.
Q: What are you most excited about?
Last two bucks.
Q: Who is your money on to win?
Henry Hinds or Justin Potter.
JUSTIN Potter, Dally Up, Theodore, may spend most of his time chasing cattle, but when it comes to the Theodore kindy rodeo he’ll be trying his hand at riding one.
Q: How did you get involved in the steer ride?
Last year Beau (Surawski) and all those guys got into it and they roped me into it so I can’t get out of it.
Q: What are you most worried about?
Nothing really.
Q: What are you most excited about?
When it’s over.
Q: Who is your money on to win?
Stewie (Stewart Shoecraft).
IT’S not Stewart Shoecraft’s first rodeo – and that alone makes him the favourite heading into the celebrity steer ride, seeing as he’s the only one with any actual experience.
Q: How did you get involved in the steer ride?
My nephew’s wife rang me, and you never refuse a lady.
Q: What are you most worried about?
I’m not worried. Done this before.
Q: What are you most excited about?
That I was asked to do it.
Q: Who is your money on to win?
Me.
