A good panel of commercial and stud stock buyers were at the 11th annual invitational Lilydale Charolais bull and female sale on Saturday.
The bidding started strongly with top priced bull of the sale being reached at Lot 2 for 24-month-old RNJ’S Moonshine (AI) (P) bull.
The sire was presented by invited studmasters Rodney and Janelle Freeman, RNJ’S Charolais Stud, Tallegalla near Rosewood, and was purchased for $10,000 by Reid Radel, Yebna, Taroom.
The RNJ’S Moonshine bull displayed great bone and a soft, thick muscle pattern plus was sired by Laurel 7195122401 bull out of a high performing RNJ’S stud cow called Pearl Gem (RJ7 F68E) (P).
Moonshine bull recorded some impressive figures including a weight of 930 kilograms and 10 millimetres of fat on the rump and 8 millimetres of fat on the rib area, a scrotal measurement of 36 centimetres, plus a solid eye muscle area of 150 centimetres squared.
Overall, the Lilydale invitational recorded 100 per cent clearance rate with the Charolais bulls offered averaging $4653-a-head and a sale gross earnings of $144,250. The Charolais female section of the sale also achieved 100pc clearance rate and a sale gross earnings of $24,700 for an average price of $2158.
The top priced female of the sale was 18-month-old Lilydale Foxy Gem 3 heifer who sold to $3250 and was offered by sale vendors Ross and Janine Sticklen, Lilydale Charolais Stud, Lilydale near Helidon.
The Lilydale Foxy Gem 3 heifer was unjoined and was bought by Noel Herbst, Mt Warren Park.
The stylish Charolais heifer was sired by Colinta Fusilier (ISA F5049F) out of RNJ’S Foxy Gem (RJ7 F81E) who is owned by the Lilydale Charolais Stud.
Noel Herbst, Mt Warren Park was also the bulk buyer in the Charolais female section of the sale.
Mr Herbst purchased five lots including the top priced heifer, 12-month-old unjoined Bird Hill Nancy (AI) heifer for $1500, 22-month-old unjoined Lilydale Oprah 30 heifer for $2400, 17-month-old unjoined Lilydale Moonlight heifer for $2250 and 16-month-old Lilydale Patsy 10 heifer for $2250 as well.
Also at the sale were Jim and Janice Spreadborough, Bird Hill Charolais Stud, West Blenheim in the Lockyer Valley region.
The second top price of the sale was Lot 17, Bird Hill Merlin (AI) Charolais bull, who sold for $8500 to the Brennan family, Kagaru.
The 19-month-old Bird Hill Merlin sire was the youngest bull offered by the Spreadborough family with the full French sire recording an eye muscle area of 134 centimetres squared and a weight of 810 kilograms with 7 millimetres of fat on the rump and 6 millimetres of fat on the rib area, plus a scrotal measurement of 35 centimetres.
Third top price of the sale was Bird Hill Matlock (AI) bull who sold for $7000 to Moteham, Lyndhurst.
The 23-month-old bull weighed 855 kilograms with an eye muscle area of 143 centimetres squared and 9 millimetres of fat on the rump plus 7 millimetres of fat on the rib area.
