A woman who sustained leg and neck injuries after her car collided with a sugarcane train in Bundaberg has been identified as former Labor MP Leanne Donaldson.

Ms Donaldson, 50, was trapped inside her crumpled hatchback at Qunaba, in the town's east, for an hour after the crash on Burnett Heads Road on Friday.

She was taken to hospital in a stable condition with a fracture and leg injuries.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Cameron said rail network lights were working at the time of the incident and that the three people onboard the train were not injured.

The force of the impact caused the train and three cane bins to derail.

A police investigation is ongoing.
