Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 601 head for Tuesday’s prime and store sale, an increase of 446 head. Buyers were presented with some larger lines of northern cows and bulls. There were a few pens of good quality local ox, local trade heifers and cows. In attendance were two local wholesalers and a small gallery of local fatteners and re-stockers.
Local trade heifers remained firm to 5c/kg cheaper while cows were back 15c on 185c of last week. Slaughter ox gained 14c, cows gained 3c for a single cow, while bulls gained 11c for the best on offer.
Local trade heifers ranged from 179c to 184c and local trade cows made from 100c to 170c. Ox suitable for slaughter sold from 213c to 249.2c, cows suitable for slaughter made from 129c to 203c, while bulls suitable for slaughter ranged from 170c to 226c.
Store steers topped at 200.2c, store heifers sold to 178.2c and younger store bulls reached 227.2c. Cows and calves made $450/unit.
