Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 178 head for this week’s prime and store sale, a reduction of 170 head.
The sale attracted some strong competition on the limited numbers of prime cattle. Local trade bullocks nearly hit the 260c mark, local trade heifers rose by 14c, and local trade cows gained 20c for the best on offer. Slaughter ox gained 30c for a single bullock, cows improved by 8c while bulls remained firm to 1c stronger. Good quality store cattle were limited in numbers.
Local trade steers sold from 230c to 258c, local trade heifers ranged from 204c to 214c and local trade cows made from 90c to 217c. Ox suitable for slaughter sold from 150c to 260c, cows suitable for slaughter made from 160c to 211c, while bulls suitable for slaughter ranged from 180c to 211c.
Store steers topped at 261c, one cow and calf unit made $440 and younger store bulls reached 180c.
