Dalby hosted Rangers in front of a large ladies crowd at John Ritter, where it was the Wheatmen who were up for the challenge and entertained the large crowd running in 38 points.
The Wheatmen applied defensive pressure to the Rangers and were able to score a number of tries from forced errors in the Rangers’ attack. It was a perfect example of turning good defence into attack and Dalby’s counter attack was on fire scoring a number of tries out wide through wingers Matt Donovan and Pat Mcveigh. Strong performances from Dalby’s young gun Brock Carmichael and skipper Sam Hogarth helped sealed the victory 38-8 over the Rangers at Dalby.
Roma travelled into the city to for this weekend’s fixtures to face USQ. Roma came out hard and pushed a top four side, scoring three tries early but USQ were too experienced and showed great composure, playing a great game of attacking rugby and running in nine tries with winger Pita Tagituimua bagging a double for his home side to walk away 55-15 victors at USQ rugby Oval.
The Toowoomba Bears travelled down to Gatton to take on the uni students of Gatton Blackpigs. It was the Blackpigs who scored the first try as the two sides battled it out working their way up field in attack. Goal line defence from both sides was too good with neither side able to break the line as the score remained 7-0 at halftime.
The Bears came out firing early in the second half, retrieving their own kick off and scoring just minutes later through flyhalf Declan Wheeler. The two sides then went try for try and penalty kick for penalty kick the Bears looked to have sealed the deal with a penalty kick to make the score 24-22 with just two minutes left.
The Blackpigs gained possession in a lineout just 22 metres out from the Bears’ try line as they picked and drove just inches from the try line. The Bears defence looked to be too good as the Bears gained possession of the ball before giving a penalty away five metres out in front of the black dot. Gatton’s 10 Trent Davison slotted the easy kick to give the Blackpigs a one point victory 25-24 after the fulltime whistle in Gatton.
Highfields travelled out to Condamine to take on the mighty Cods. The Redbacks outfit has improved dramatically in the last few rounds and pushed the top five side to the final whistle. The Cods were too strong at home and knew went to step it up to seal the victory 38-28 as they ran in six tries with flyhalf Angus Smith scoring a double.
