THE sea of pink shirts was hard to miss at the Yeppoon Show, with the Rockhampton Girls Grammar students out in force.

At the lead was agricultural coordinator Ku Lacey, who said the usual show team consists of 23 girls, but in Yeppoon they had a team of 15.

“It’s good to have heaps of kids involved and interested and learning,” she said.

“It’s been fairly stable for a few years, this is our fifth year of doing the show team.”

Year 11 student Lucy Brown, originally from Valencia, Capella, said she loved being involved in the show team and working with the school.

“I’ve been in this team for three years now,” she said.

“I just love working with cattle and learning and achieving stuff, we’re getting really good.

“Watching out team grow from being what we used to get to now is just amazing and it’s exciting.”

Lucy hopes to become a veterinarian after school, and said being part of the show team was great experience.

”It really helps because I learn so much here that my parents can’t teach me, so I learn about judging the animals and when they’re crook what to look for,” she said.

The Girls Grammar School were on-site with the Lowlines they show, and Lucy was the one to lead Gigi Nefarious who went on to become the Junior Champion Bull.

”He’s a very good bull on good bone with good structure. He’s got a good attitude which is also what I like about him, in the mornings he’ll be cranky but he calms down,” she said.

The girls will be heading to Rockhampton Show this week, and then Mount Larcom.
