Cattle numbers almost doubled, reaching 2140 head, boosted by 1345 weaners and yearlings in the fortnightly feature sale. Heifer prices softened by 13c/kg on last week while weaner steer prices were 9c/kg stronger. PTIC females continue to be hard-pressed for bidder activity.
Weaner heifers weighing up to 300kg averaged 227c/kg and sold to 272c. A line of 114 EU accredited weaned Braford and Crossbred heifers, a/c CP Grazing, Kunwarara, achieved the top price, aged 6-10 months, weighing 224kg. The brothers of these heifers weighed 234kg and returned 307c. From Julia Creek, a/c BD Fegan, 148 Droughtmaster cross heifers weighing 254kg, returned 190c or $485/head.
Weaner steer prices averaged 303c and sold to a top of 314c for a line of 77 Angus steers from Inglewood, a/c PJ & JT Hoey. Weighing 248kg, these steers have been yard weaned over a four week period and are ready to background. Their heavier brothers, weighing 283kg sold for 288c. From Springsure, a/c Cardbeign P/L, 132 weaned composite steers weighing 213kg, returned 309c. 158 EU accredited Senepol cross steers, a/c Hardenley Pty Ltd, Gin Gin, averaged 259c.
PTIC cows sold between $800 and $1130 to average $945. Kynee Pastoral Co, Goondiwindi offered 45 mixed age proven breeders across two lots, PTIC to stud Angus bulls, which averaged $1085. They also offered 44 heifers, PTIC to fullblood Wagyu bulls, returning $1380. While from Mungallala, 152 PTIC Angus cows, a/c Chiconi Grazing Pty Ltd, aged 2 to 4 years averaged $805.
Sheep and lamb numbers this week climbed to 5900 head, up 3144 on last week. Clearance was firm at 72 per cent.
A line of 800 Aug/Sept 17’ drop woolgrower wethers were offered, a/c Truss Grazing Co, Quilpie. Off shears and weighing 32kg, they returned $75. Similarly, AJ & FM Thompson, Cunnamulla offered 750 Aug to Oct 17 drop Merino wethers, weighing 38kg with a 20mm skin, which returned $74.50. From Eromanga, Monler Past Co offered 500 Merino wethers aged 17 – 19 months weighing 43kg which returned $68. A line of 164 of their sisters weighing 40kg, returned $60. The largest line offered this week was 820 SM Merino ewes a/c Moble Pastoral Co, Quilpie. Off shears and weighing 41kg, these ewes are aged 4 to 8 years and returned $52.50.
A line of 360 2nd cross Border Leicester ewes offered by R Thorne, Glenlyon, were purchased out of Wagga Wagga, NSW for $110. These ewes are aged 2-6 years, SIL to Poll Dorset rams and weigh 45kg.
Two to five year old SIL Dorper ewes, weighing 53kg, from Longreach, a/c Pumbaaloo Pty Ltd, were sold for $117. HC & JA Maxwell, Isisford, sold 314 ewe hoggets weighing 49kg for $97.
