Cattle numbers softened to 1297 head. Bidding activity concentrated largely around weaners which is likely to continue as we move into the ‘on week’ of weaner and yearling sales.
Weaner heifers weighing up to 300kg averaged 240c/kg and sold to 247c. A line of 90 Angus/Santa heifers a/c WJ & JE Pratt, Stanthorpe achieved the top price. Weighing 197kg and EU accredited, these heifers were weaned onto the truck. From Roma, JM & BT Murray, offered two lines of Angus cross heifers. The heavier heifers weighed 296kg at 10-12 months to return $650 or 233c.
Weaner steer prices tended firmer than last week, averaging 294c to a top of 313c. Again, WJ & JE Pratt, Stanthorpe offered the top priced line, 90 EU accredited Angus cross steers aged 5-8 months, weighing 207kg. From Dirranbandi, a/c Trafalgar Farming, 110 weaned Angus and Angus cross steers weighing 281kg, returned 286c.
A line of 90 NSM Grey Brahman Future Breeders a/c Murray Family Trust, Prairie, returned $505. Aged 12-18 months and weighing 264kg, these heifers presented a quality opportunity for re-stockers. From Cunnamulla, Warrego Park Qld Pty Ltd, 57 station mated cows and 64 calves returned $1210. Aged 5 – 10 years, these cows have been continuously running back to Charolais and Angus bulls and 27 cows are back in calf, from 2 – 6 months. The calves at foot are aged up to 6 months and weighed an average of 177kg. CA & MG Munro, Inglewood sold 32 PTIC heifers returning $1150. Predominantly Angus and aged 18-21 months, these heifers are in calf to Wagyu bulls.
Sheep and lamb numbers remained steady at 2756 head, with the total offering comprised of lambs and wethers.
From Bollon, Cashelvale Past Co offered 212 mixed sex first cross lambs which returned $75.50. Weighing 37kg, with 70mm skin, these lambs are Sept/Nov 2017 drop. Glentown Grazing Co, Toobeah, offered 672 mixed sex store lambs to return $64. Shorn in March, these Merino lambs weigh 32kg.
Merino wethers averaged $76 and sold to $80.50 for a line of rising two to rising four year old woolgrower wethers, a/c Moble Pastoral Co, Quilpie. Weighing 46kg, these wethers are freshly shorn. The lighter brothers were also offered, weighing 36kg to return $70.50. Glentown Grazing Co, Toobeah offered 312 rising 2 year old woolgrower wethers, weighing 45kg returned $77.
