A catalogue filled to the covers with high quality heifers is primed to see the long-running success story which is the Gympie Brahman Female Sale continue when the sale takes place at the Gympie Saleyards on Saturday, June 2, from 9.30am.
A total of 125 lots have been selected for this years sale featuring a diverse selection of desirable genetics from 33 highly respected Brahman breeders.
Included in the catalogue are 124 Registered females and one semen package; 97 high quality Grey females will go under the hammer first, followed by a contingent of 27 impeccable Red females.
Sale agent, Mark Scholes, Landmark Stud Stock Rockhampton, said through the years the Gympie sale has built a reputation for continually offering reliably first-rate Brahman females.
“Buyers have grown accustomed to the sale offering featuring females backed by a wide variety of proven sire bloodlines,” he said.
He said even though it’s been dry in patches around the region, Gympie and the Wide Bay area have had a really good season.
“Combined with the continued strength in the cattle market, hopefully, it will engender confidence in the panel of buyers we have attending the sale this year.
“We usually get good support from buyers throughout Qld, and depending on what season is like we often have buyers arrive from Northern NSW, and we’ve even had interest from some Victorian producers this year.”
Royce Sommerfeld, Brahrock Brahman Stud, Maryborough, attended the sale for the first time in 1975, and has loyally supported it through the good times and the bad ever since.
“It’s about as far south as you can get for a good Brahman sale,” he said.
“The idea since the start was to create a prestige sale featuring high-quality Brahman female genetics, and that notion has been followed through successfully for more than four decades.”
Mr Sommerfeld will be offering 22 heifers aged between 15 and 23 months at the 2018 sale, including daughters of their latest imported bulls, JDH Jene Manso 117/8 (IMP US) (H) and JDH Massai Manso 608/6 (IMP US) (H).
At the 2017 sale Gavin Scott, Rosetta Grazing Company, Collinsville said Brahrock MS Platinum Elmo 5668 (IVF ) (P) was ‘the best poll heifer he has ever seen’ and paid $34,000 for the unjoined grey heifer. In all 96 females sold last year to average $4474, with a 97 per cent clearance achieved.
Pre-sale inspections will take place from 3.30pm to 5pm, Friday, June 1, with drinks and nibbles to follow from 5pm to 6pm.
