A 2015 proposal by the Rockhampton Regional Council to rename a portion of Lion Creek Road running beside the Beef Australia headquarters at the Rockhampton showgrounds came to fruition on Wednesday when mayor, Margaret Strelow, made a special presentation.
Speaking during the Graeme Acton Beef Connections luncheon, Cr Strelow said the desire to permanently remember the former Beef Australia chairman and recognised beef baron had been hatched during the 2015 Beef Australia event.
Commenting that the council’s designers had set a new standard, she presented the Graeme Acton Way street sign to Jennie Acton, after Graeme and Jennie’s son, Tom Acton, spoke about the importance of the Beef Connections program to the family.
“Dad had a great passion for young people and was always encouraging them to reach their full potential,” he said. “This lunch is a perfect platform and a fitting tribute to his memory.”
Speaking to the young achievers, Tom said he was sure they would go on and make their mark in their chosen fields, commenting that many of their mentors were associates of his father.
