A NSW born and bred Red Angus female has mastered the show ring and taken home yet another broad ribbon to add to her long list of wins.
Black Diamond 35X Mistress, exhibited by Christie and Andrew Kennedy, Black Diamond Red Angus, Cowra, was named senior and grand champion female by judge Berry Reynolds, Mort and Co, who said the female was exceptional and functional.
“She is productive and has calved early, but they haven’t pushed her. Her udder has the ability to last and she is very maternal,” Mr Reynolds said.
The 23-month-old winning cow was sired by Red DMM Glesbar Barndance 35X from BST Tullatoola Robin’s Doll C104, and showed with a February born heifer calf, Black Diamond Red Panache sired by Red Brylor Red Kodiak 3A.
Owner, Christie Kennedy, said the female had a show career that extends across the country.
“She was the junior champion female at the 2018 Royal Adelaide and Melbourne Shows, and also the reserve interbreed junior champion female at Melbourne last year,” she said.
“She also had a win in her class at Sydney Royal this year, and last year she was the reserve junior champion female there.”
Rounding out the female section was junior champion winner K5X Trendy M79, exhibited by Kelli Smith and Steve Hayward, Allora. The 20-month-old female was by Pine Villa Firstclass from Crooble Trendsetter.
Mr Reynolds said the females optimised what the breed can do. “They show the maternal ability, balance and overall adaptability of the breed,” he said.
Round-Em-Up Red Angus’ sole entry, Round-Em-Up Morton M17, was the junior and grand champion bull.
By Claremont Red Heartbreaker from Round-Em-Up Umina G7, the 20-month-old bull weighed 872 kilograms with measurements of 13 millimeters and 10mm in the rump and rib fat and an eye muscle area (EMA) of 123 centimeters squared.
Mr Reynolds described the bull as the “most balanced bull with thickness and smoothness”.
“He is the most complete bull that is adaptable to this environment,” he said.
Owner and exhibitor David Hobbs, Molong, said the bull was from a good cow family, with interbreed and national success on his sire’s side. He hopes to sell the bull at the Red Angus and Simmental National Show and Sale if not sold privately prior.
The Haycock family from Pine Villa Red Angus, Yeoval, NSW, were winners of the senior champion bull title with their entry Pine Villa Leroy Brown. Sired by Red SSS Soldier 365W from Kansas Red Lucille W121, the 31-month-old bull weighed in at 1020kg and recorded an EMA of 136cm2 and rib and rump fats of 9mm and 12mm.
