Mareeba Combined Agents penned a small total of 426 head for this week’s prime and store sale. Numbers decreased by 112 head.
The yarding consisted of some good prime local trade steers and heifers, mostly slaughter cows and a useful number of bulls.
Store steers, heifers and males dropped back in numbers but values remained firm on last week’s quotes. Local trade steers showed a healthy gain of 9c/kg while heifers were back 27c, however one pen of good prime crossbred heifers went to export slaughter at 211c.
Slaughter ox numbers were too insufficient to quote. Slaughter cows topped at 200c as they did last week. Light prime cows struggled to reach the best of last week, back 4c for local trade types.
Slaughter bulls improved by 38c. One polled Droughtmaster bull went back to the paddock at 253c to return the vendor $1911.
Local trade steers sold from 232c to 257c, local trade heifers ranged from 170c to 204c and local trade cows made from 110c to 195c. Cows suitable for slaughter made from 120c to 211c, while bulls suitable for slaughter ranged from 242c to 248c.
Store steers topped at 289c, store heifers sold to 230c and younger store bulls reached 283c. Cows and calves made $840/unit
