St Ursula’s College, Yeppoon, Year 8 student, Charley Lalor, and her younger sister, Lacey, returned from the Australian Quarter Horse Association’s (AQHA) National Show in Tamworth with multiple titles between them.
Charley, 13, said the National Show, held from April 5 to 15, was one part of their busy season, with several agricultural shows on the calendar in the coming months.
At the AQHA’s National Show, Charley was awarded National Reserve in both the Western Horsemanship and Trails 12-14 years categories, and National Runner-Up High Point Youth 12-14 years.
Lacey, 11, a student at Cawarral State School, won the National titles for Trail, Western Horsemanship, and Hunt Seat Equitation in the 11 years and under category at the same competition.
“So far this year, I’ve competed in the Welsh Horse State Show and the AQHA’s National Show, and I really enjoyed them both,” said Charley.
Charley intends to compete in the upcoming Yeppoon, Rockhampton, and The Caves agricultural shows.
“My horse, Catwalk Mischief Jack, is a 16-year-old Bay Quarter Horse,” said Charley.
“Lacey and I started riding horses when we were very young; mum (Shelley Lalor) has always owned horses and so has my grandmother.
“Lacey and I will keep the family tradition going for another generation.”
