Cotton Australia held its Teach the Teacher tour in Goondiwindi on Wednesday afternoon, showcasing the cotton industry to 25 new and existing teachers from the community.

The tour kicked off with a trip to Glen Smith’s property Koarlo, Yelarbon, where the group go to walk through a cotton crop, watch a picker in action and learn about the industry from a grower’s perspective.

Next stop was the Namoi Cotton ginning complex. Donning high-vis vests, hard hats, glasses and masks, the group made its way through the gin, following the processing path from beginning to end.

The afternoon drew to a close at Goondiwindi Cotton, a family owned business that has been an integral part of the Goondiwindi community for 25 years.

Speaking to the group, Goondiwindi Cotton founder Sam Coutlon highlighted the fundamental role of cotton in the Goondiwindi community, and commended the teachers on their contribution to the education of the next generation.
