There was large numbers at Roma’s store sale, 9021 head to be exact!
The main reason for the large yarding was a flow of cattle from New South Wales drought affected areas.
In prices, young weaner steers sold to 354cents/kilogram to average 332c/kg, while heavier sorts averaged 303c/kg. Quality feeder steers, over 400kg, topped at 298c/kg and average 288c/kg. Yearling heifers made 310c/kg to average 275c/kg.
At Dalby, not many bullocks were penned but large numbers of cull cows were yarded with prices falling to 213c/kg on average for heavy well-conditioned cows.
Numbers were restricted at Emerald’s cattle sale last Thursday.
At Gracemere, young steer calves averaged 338c/kg and heifers 257c/kg. Prime heavy bullocks averaged 266c/kg.
And Toowomba’s cattle sale started the week with bullocks averaging 277c/kg.
Finally, Don Russell from Liston took out ‘Champion Pen of Crossbred Steers’ at the Stanthorpe Blue Ribbon Weaner Sale last Thursday. The Angus/Limousin-cross steers sold to 331c/kg to return $1218/head.
