Twenty-six year old Queensland livestock agent Nick Shorten has been awarded runner-up at this year’s Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association National Young Auctioneers Competition held at Sydney Royal Show.
The GDL livestock auctioneer, who is based at Roma, was all smiles when the results were announced last Friday, especially since it’s Mr Shorten’s last year to compete in the competition due to age cut-off restrictions.
“I’m real proud to be representing GDL and Queensland in this competition, plus I have to thank GDL for all their support during my time competing in this young auctioneers competition,” Mr Shorten said.
It was Nick’s first time competing in Sydney for the national final, having been an agent for seven years.
Nick said drafting cattle was what lured him into the business and as he grew older he developed an interest in selling and meeting clients.
As runner-up Nick will now travel to New Zealand on a selling tour.
