A steady afternoon downpour wasn’t enough to deter buyers at the first annual Silverdale Dorset Stud Three Breeds ram and ewe sale at Inglewood Showgrounds on Friday.
Selling 15 of the 40 rams offered for a 37.5 per cent clearance rate, the sale made a top of $1100 and averaged $730.
The top-priced ram, Lot 1, was offered as a charity ram and purchased by TopX Warwick who plan to re-sell it in two weeks time at the first Warwick sheep sale, with all proceeds going to the nominated charity, The McGrath Foundation.
Weighing 126 kilograms, the Poll Dorset ram was the standout of all the rams offered with a long back, broad shoulders and hindquarters, and a strong composition.
The second top-priced ram, Lot 3, was purchased by the Hallinan family, Allansford, Tara for $850.
Weighing 110kg, the Poll Dorset ram was a finer-type sheep than the top-priced ram, but still had a great composition.
Top volume buyer on the day was the Hallinan family, Allansford, Tara, who purchased six rams for a top of $850 and average of $725.
Other volume buyers included Darren Parker, Tenterfield, NSW, who took home three rams averaging $666, and the Hughes family, Dorne, Meandarra, who purchased two rams averaging $700.
All fifteen stud ewes offered sold for an average of $302, with Geoff Batterham, Millmerran, paying the top price of $560 for a Southdown ewe.
The sale was conducted by TopX Warwick and Lincoln McKinlay, TopX Roma, was the auctioneer.
