Pop-up polo is coming to Rockhampton - and tickets are on sale now.

POP up polo is coming to Rockhampton on June 9 and will be the northern-most game of polo to be played in Queensland.

Launching the event in Rockhampton on Thursday was Janek Gazecki who is on the board of the Urban Polo Association, which he founded.

He said organisers were hoping for a sell-out crowd. The boutique event will hit capacity at about 3000 guests.

Mr Gazecki became involved in polo after his father insisted he learn how to ride horses. He quickly fell in love with the sport, and was juggling it with his career as a lawyer when eventually polo took over and became his full-time career.

Bringing the match to Rockhampton came after constant requests to take the game out of the major cities, and into the regions.

As a regional hub close to the Capricorn Coast, Mr Gazecki said Rockhampton was an easy choice.

There are two ticket options, with the Polo Club ($190), or the Canadian Club Polo Lounge ($40).

Polo Club tickets will include alcohol, food, and premium marquees with a “chic gourmet lunch, fine wines, beers and other select alcohol, as well as polo action and great company”.

The Canadian Club Polo Lounge will give revellers a chance to meet the players on the day and other Australian polo players in a more casual beer garden.

There will also be a Fashions on the Field event, but Mr Gazecki was quick to say a day at the polo was not like one at the races.

Mr Gazecki is married with three children, but ironically his son can’t play polo as they are left-handed – and you can only play the game with your right hand.

“All we do is polo, polo, polo,” he said.

“We’ve kind of come full circle… we were just waiting for the right opportunity to find a suitable partner to work with.”
