Feeder steers reach 307.2c, at Toowoomba


There was a yarding of 1256 cattle at Toowoomba on Monday.


There was a yarding of 1256 cattle at Elders Harristown Saleyards on Monday. 

Export cattle were dearer with cows improving by the greatest margin. Trade cattle were firm with store and restocker prices being affected by the dry conditions. 

Best bulls a/c Hansen and Rasmussen, Kingaroy sold to $2018. There were no young quality bullocks yarded, bullocks showing teeth topped at 268.2c. Two ex-led steers a/c Travis Luscombe, Allora weighing 677kg realised 274.2c to return $1857. 

No heavy feeder steers or heavy heifers were yarded. The best of cows yarded at Harristown in recent years saw Mervyn Newlands, Millmerran sell a pen of Simmental cows weighing 653kgs for 234.2c to return $1531.  A line of 156 crossbred cows a/c CR & JM Henry, Wandoan averaged 219.1c for 507kg to top at 227.2c. 

Trade steers and heifers were in short supply.  Best steers a/c Dowling Farms reached 277.2c with companion heifers reaching 276.2c. Feeders suitable to the trade a/c Ruth Francis, Highfields sold to 307.2c to return $892.  Lightweight Hereford steers a/c Gary & Lyn Dearling sold to 290.2c to return $895.  Cows and calves in pen lots topped at $1280.
