Cattle producers will be presented with a can’t miss opportunity to bolster and diversify the bloodlines in their herds at the 8th annual Charnelle Charolais Invitation Female and Genetics Sale being held at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday, March 3 from 11am.
Sale coordinator and vendor Graham Blanch, Charnelle Charolais, Tent Hill, Gatton, said another exciting 177 lot catalogue has been assembled for the 2018 sale which is comprised of 68 females, three bulls, 187 embryos, 519 semen straws, and two liquid nitrogen AI Tanks, from 17 highly regarded Charolais breeders, including three first-time sale vendors.
He said the sale represents the “best value for money female Charolais sale anywhere in Australia”.
“We’ve had some buoyant sale results recently but considering the quality of the genetics on offer this year, I’m sure our buyers will be pleased with the investments they make,” Graham said.
He said the entire sale draft has been selected with a focus on providing producers with practical cattle for today's market, with growthy, soft, good boned and highly fertile females featuring throughout the catalogue.
“More than 95 per cent of the lots catalogued are Polled, and we’ll also have some of the joined females preg tested and fetal sex tested so come sale day prospective buyers will be able to see on the supplementary sheet if the calves are going to be male or female,” he said.
Graham said the cows, and cows and calves catalogued this year are “exceptional”, with a range of females that are show females to donor cows. Sires represented include Pilgrim, Rangan Park Rio Bravo D15, Exclusif, EC No Doubt, Duke 835, Impair, Montana Silver, and LT bulls Easy Blend and Ledger.
He said a line-up of practical industry focused joined heifers also awaits bidder competition.
“The genetics throughout these lots are excellent and diverse. Sires represented include Hicks Remington, Merit Roundup, Gallway, Harvie Redemption, Silver Bullet, DÁngely and Thin Red Line. A number of these are joined to Elders Blackjack, Lt Ledger, Charnelle Louis and Palgrove Leader.”
Graham said a great line up of 23 unjoined females will complete the live lot offering, and noted that quite a few are halter broken.
“Sires represented include Pinay, Harvie Redemption, Gallway, Advance Domino, Charnelle Kentucky and Cedardale Yellowstone.”
He said an exciting aspect of this years sale offering is the huge range of semen packages being offered from the very successful Fernvale Charolais Stud owned by Tom and Ann Wilkinson.
“Fernvale was at the forefront of Charolais breeding for 20 years and we’ll have a collection of semen from some of their all time top bulls including Prime Mover, Trapper, Monty and Magnum, and import Fleet Rascal, available for purchase from lots 123 to 161.
“This collection represents a unique opportunity to purchase these excellent genetics for stud and commercial use within your herd, and may never be made available again.”
He said another exciting sale benefit is that more than 100 of the embryos catalogued are being offered with a 50pc guarantee on the conception rate if transferred by an approved ET technician.
“This will hopefully provide people with more confidence to buy these embryos from high class matings such as Silverstream Holster H187 (P), CML Distinction 318A (P), Winn Mans Skaggs 663X (P), among many others, which are virtually impossible to find elsewhere.”
In keeping with sale tradition the full proceeds from the sale of four A grade embryos in lot 88 out of Palgrove Panache 139 (AI) (ET) (P) X G. Bros Thin Red Line 527W (P) (R/F) will go to LifeFlight, while the money raised from the sale of the first two out of the six A grade embryos from Lot 89 Kilkenny Witagoong X Silver Bullet 524W (P) will go to the RFDS.
Graham said he’s experienced first-hand how important these services are, in relation to accidents that have befallen several of his family members over the years.
“The work they do and dedication of their staff is outstanding, it inspires you to give a bit back.”
Those unable to attend the sale in person can bid with confidence through the Elite Livestock Auctions online selling platform which will be livestreaming the sale in its entirety.
The catalogue is now available at the Elders Toowoomba office, and has been posted to all Charolais Society members and bid card holders Elders have on their books from the 2017 sale.
