There were 800 head on offer, mostly females plus some bulls, all sold open auction, with indicus cross more prevalent than straight taurus.
Brahman/ Hereford and vice versa, first cross heifers in calf sold from $1550 to $2300. F1 cows with calves around $1600.
Santa/ Hereford heifers in calf sold from $1600 to $1300. The same cross as cows with calves sold from $1440 - $1925.
White Brahman heifers in calf went from $1600 - $1900.
Brangus cows $1750 to $2050.
Flat back Brahman cross cows and calves, from $1240 - $1750.
A combined effort from the Maloney, Jarrett and Hewetson families plus agents T&W McCormack and Ramsey and Bulmer, with assistance from Armfield Livestock raised, $5300 for Dolly’s Dream.
Straight Hereford cows and calves about $1650. Black baldy cows and calves $840 to $1760.
Angus cows and calves $1400 to $1820.
Charolais cross cows with calves from $1450 - $1825.
Murray Grey cross cows and calves, from $1325 - $1650.
Top dollar
Alan Maloney, Bentley via Casino, sold the market’s top pen to Micah Middelbosch, who has new property at Coutts Crossing, via Grafton, saying Thursday’s sale was strong – beating his top price from last year’s sale by $60.
The same money went to European accredited Santa/ Hereford in calf to a Hereford bull by Scott Humphreys, “Wellbatch”, Mummulgum, who has taken over from his father Ray.
These were bought by Stephen Boland, Coraki, who works with his father Paul and will put them to terminal Charolais bulls to target the autumn “Euro-cross” weaner market at Casino.
Greg Makejev, Mallanganee, sold similar first cross heifers – Hereford/ Brahman for not much less, topping at $2050 for red taggers in calf to a Seaforth Angus bull, also going to Couttes Crossing.
Two more pens of the same went to Max and Clint McCabe, Murwillumbah, who paid up to $2020 and will also put them to a terminal Charolais bull, selling the weaners for top price back at Casino.
Simmental/ Red Brahman in calf to an Angus bull, by Mr Makejev, sold to $2100, with Mr Middelbosch taking the bid.
Silver Brahman heifers sold to $1900, with two pens from Gary and Tom Jarrett, with property at The Gorge via Bonalbo, going to Tweed Valley’s Hidden Valley Speckle Park stud as host mothers for embryo transfer progeny.
The Jarretts also sold the same to Dan Fox, Tunglebung, who bought to a top of $1875, in calf to a Hereford bull.
Senepol over Limousin/ Santa green tag heifers sold to $1080, bred by Peter Foot, Collins Creek via Kyogle who used a bull from David Flower, Sawpit Creek.
Mick Melino, Woodlawn, bought Brangus cows with calves for his own use from the Morgan family, Woodburn, paying to a top of $1875.
Darren and Michelle Riley, Busby’s Flat, bought Angus cows and calves for $1400.
