PEOPLE lined the streets waving Australian flags and even visitors were in tears watching the convoy of Burrumbuttock Hay Runners arrive with loads of hay to the drought stricken Cunnamulla this afternoon.
More than 100 trucks made their way into the small town at about 5pm after leaving Darling Point early this morning.
In what was the ultimate gesture of Australian spirit, the drivers all donated their time and machines to come to the aid of farmers while a group of Gold Coasters who raised more than $20,000 for the event also made the trek to the south west.
Among the drivers was possibly the youngest hay runner ever, eight-month-old Ardon Lidgard who made the trek with parents Joel Lidgard and Leah Byrne from near Sydney.
The hay will be distributed to local properties tomorrow with more than 100 producers asking for assistance.
