The summer heat did little to subdue the enthusiasm of young people who turned out for the Santa Gertrudis youth camp at Morgan Park, Warwick.
In addition to learning about cattle and the beef industry, there was also plenty of time for fun and games at the four day camp, held January 10 to 13, including a games night, farmers challenge and water slide.
This year’s RJ Kleberg Award winner was Georgia McMaster who will also be the 2018 Santa Gertrudis Youth Ambassador.
Last year’s youth ambassador Maddy Page from Sheffield, Tasmania said the camp was a excellent opportunity to meet and interact with young people interested in the cattle industry.
“It’s a lot of fun and a great way to learn about the industry with your friends,” she said.
A number of awards were also handed out including the champion junior commercial cattle judge, champion junior stud cattle judge, and a champion herdsperson that was won by Lachlan Martin.
