The cotton industry’s leading irrigation and nitrogen researchers will go on-farm across six cotton growing valleys in February to discuss the latest research findings with cotton growers.
The 2018 CottonInfo Optimising Irrigation and Nitrogen Researchers Tour will visit Darlington Point, Warren, Moree, Wee Waa, Boggabilla and Brookstead from Tuesday 6 to Wednesday 14 February.
The tour will feature ten leading industry researchers discussing four key irrigation and nitrogen considerations for growers - using benchmarking to quantify irrigation losses on-farm; understanding where nitrogen losses occur and what can be done; determining how irrigation management influences losses in crop nitrogen uptake; and maximising irrigation system performance – all designed to help growers make economically beneficial and sustainable decisions for their farms.
The tour will also feature the CottonInfo regional extension officers presenting the outcomes of this season’s trials in each valley, which focused on the impact of irrigation on nitrogen loss.
The tour is delivered by the industry’s extension program, CottonInfo, with support from CottonInfo partner CRDC, researchers and their research organisations. The tour is also supported by funding from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources through the Rural R&D for Profit program.
The research presented on the tour has been funded by CRDC in partnership with research organisations NSW DPI, CSIRO, QUT, ANU, Deakin University, NCEA-USQ & GVIA.
It has also been funded through the Rural R&D for Profit program projects Smarter Irrigation for Profit, and More Profit from Nitrogen.
