Mareeba Combined Agents penned 344 head for this week’s prime and store sale. Numbers decreased by 272 head mainly due to winding down of most operations before the Christmas break. Yarding consisted mainly of good quality prime and store cattle. Values for local trade steers rose by 10c on last week’s best of 258c, while heifers were in short supply and back 9c on last week’s best of 220c.
Slaughter ox remained firm to 10c dearer on last week’s high of 258c. Cows were limited in numbers and bulls fell 13c for best on offer. Good quality store steers didn’t reach last week’s high, back 12c, heifers sold to 304.2c a rise of 2c while bulls sold in a similar range. Five Droughtmaster cows and calves returned $1260/unit.
