Noted northern cattleman Evan Acton has confirmed that after more than 30 years of active management of Millungera Station, he is stepping back from his daily operational role.
The Acton Family purchased the one million acre Millungera station via Julia Creek in north west Queensland from CSR in July 1985 with Evan and family relocating from Weetalaba near Collinsville in Central Queensland to take over the development and management of the property in August of that year .
Since those early years, Mr Acton, along with his late brother Graeme operating under the Acton Land and Cattle Company (ALCC) banner, gained a strong reputation for astute land and cattle transactions across central and northern Queensland and development of the Acton Super beef brand.
Following the death of Graeme in 2014, Evan and Graeme’s wife Jennie, sold Barkly Downs station and sold down their interest in ALCC to the Lee family and formed the Australian Cattle and Beef Holdings (ACBH). This joint venture company owns and operates cattle businesses across Barkly Downs, Millungera, Croydon, Rugby Run, Iffley and Moray Downs properties.
In addition to his role in ALCC, Evan and his wife Kim have had a long tradition of active and highly successful participation in campdrafting across most of Queensland, including leadership roles as president and committeeman with the national body for many years.
While Evan and Kim will continue to live at Millungera, Evan’s retirement from daily operational management responsibilities will allow him to focus on a more strategic role as a shareholder and director in ACBH, Acton family company businesses, horse breeding and maintain the family’s keen interest in campdrafting.
ACBH Group chief operating officer Ben Dwyer will now actively start recruiting to identify a high quality replacement for this key management role.
