Classified Santa Gertrudis bulls sold to $67,500 on the way to setting a phenomenal average of $11,080 at last week’s annual Santa Central Sale, Clifton. The sale saw unled 'S' bulls hit $40,000 in market where clearance levels basically remained the same.
A three state buying panel supported the fixture involving seedstock and prominent commercial producers. Sale openers were 24 led bulls that topped at $67,500 to average $16,562, $1320 up on the previous year’s result. Among all these impressive figures affordability remains a huge drawcard with 44 per cent of the yarding selling for $5000 or less.
Sale topper was the $67,500 Wave Hill Larikan (P) (30 months) (1021kg) offered by Phillip Kirkby, Wave Hill Stud, Narrabri, NSW and selling to Heath Tiller and family, Goolagong Stud, Warnertown, South Australia. Larikan, a son of Glenn Oaks Fleetwood, was sold with an eight share retained by the Glenn Oaks prefix, Nobby. Nine by Fleetwood averaged $15,278. Losing bidder on the top seller were Ian and Kerry Walker, Strathmore Stud, Blackall.
Sylvia Kirkby, Warenda Stud, Narrabri, NSW sold the $55,000 Warenda Labrador (P) (29 months) (1105kg) to Moreton and Frances Rolfe, Hardigreen Park, Wallabadah, NSW. Underbidder on the $55,000 entry was Craig Hindle, Bullamakinka Stud, Toobeah.
Two from Hardigreen Park made $47,500, First of these was the 27-month, 1185kg, Titan (P) going to the Dunlop family, Munnabah Stud, Coolah, NSW. Underbidders on the son of Drensmaine Apex (P) were Sir William Allen and family, Forest Park Stud, Blackall. The other Hardigreen entry at the same money was the 973kg, Torro (P) (25 months) (Wave Hill Hercules) selling to the Strathmore Stud.
Top unled money at $40,000 was the two-year-old, Restdown 378 (P). The son of Yarrawonga H1250 offered by Jacob Ryan, Restdown Stud, Mathoura, NSW will take up duties at Andrew and Fiona Bassingthwaighte’s, Yarrawonga Stud, Wallumbilla.
Hacon and Sons, Buckingham Downs Station, Boulia invested on average $6600 on their six head while Peter Hall, Oorindi Park, Cloncurry took seven for on average $6143. Harrow Grazing Company, operated by the Crowther family, Injune selected six for a $5083 medium. Murray and Loretta Smith, Arm and Dagger Cattle, Augathella signed off on four to average $4250.
Taking a trio at $9667 were repeat clients the David family, Glenirie, Bundarra, NSW. Top of their selections was a $13,000 Drensmaine Apex son from Hardigreen Park. Ian and Felicity Shaw, Glen Leigh Stud, Deepwater took with them the $22,000 Goolagong Lord (AI) (P) (Yarrawonga Corvette) for the Tiller stable, SA. At $21,000 Burramurra 190 (P) (Kuloomba Custer (AI) (P)) changed hands from Mark Bazley’s operation, Moama, NSW when the 24-month-old, 863kg entry sold to Barraba Stud, Cessnock owned by the Smith family.
Forest Park Stud, Blackall claimed the $20,000 Glenn Oaks Fleetwood son, Wave Hill L67 (P) with Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, Dunlop Stud, Proston taking the $18,000 Hardigreen Park Tracer L146 (Wave Hill Jager (PS)) (22-months). Ben and Amanda Adams, Dangarfield stud, Taroom outlaid $12,000 securing the 32-month, Munnabah 1068 (P) with the Courts family, Glenalbyn Stud, Wuuluman, NSW parted with $14,000 to take the 22-month, 777kg, Burramurra 188 (P) (Waco Chevron).
The MacCue family, Tookey Creek Stud, Bellata, NSW invested $16,000 taking the Hardigreen Park entry, Tusk (P) (Drensmaine Apex) while Russell and Jenny Hampson, Monto claimed the $16,000 Glenn Oaks Litchfield (Dunlop Kaiser) from Scott and Wendy Ferguson’s, Glenn Oaks prefix, Nobby. Craig Hindle, Bullamakinka Stud, paid $13,000 for Munnabah 1116 (P) (Yarrawonga J822 (P)) (25-months).
