CHAROLAIS bulls sold to a top of $24,000 and Angus bulls to $22,000 at Jim and Jackie Wedge’s Ascot sale at Warwick on Friday.
In a very solid result given the tough Queensland/NSW season, the 63 Angus sold averaged $8158, while the 48 Charolais averaged $7750, reflecting the underlying demand for Ascot focus on commercially performing genetics.
The $24,000 top priced Charolais was Ascot Eldorado L538E, which boasted top end 200 and 400 day growth rates. The 25 month old DNA tested homozygous poll went to Australian Cattle and Beef Holdings to go into the Coles supplier’s bull breeding program. The 1002kg red factor bull had a massive 150sq cm eye muscle area, 10mm rump and 7mm rib fat measurements, and a 42cm scrotal measurement.
The $22,000 top priced Angus was Ascot Hallmark M324. The 18 month old sold to Cascade Angus Stud, Currabubula, NSW. The 804kg 16 month old had a 117sq cm EMA, 18/13mm fat measurements and a 40cm scrotal. The son of Te Emporer featured a 7.5 intramuscular fat percentage rating.
Also in the top money was the black Ascot Emporer, bought by Appleton Cattle Co, Charters Towers, for $18,000. Appleton took home three for an average $12,667.
Repeat buyers Lyndley Station, Jandowae, bought five including four Angus for an average $12,500. Pick of the draft was $17,000 Ascot Global L392, which had a 127sq cm EMA, 19/13mm fat measurements and a 42 scrotal.
Acacia Angus Stud, Killarney, outlaid $15,000 for Ascot Highlander. The 844kg 17 month old had a 126sq cm EMA.
Rich Enterprises, Wandoan, paid $14,000 for Ascot Reality, a 24 month old Angus with a 7.2 intramuscular fat percentage rating.
Wallangra Pastoral Co, Wandoan bought three for an average $11,000.
P&J Donnelly, Bald Nob, Glen Innes, paid $11,000 for Ascot Goldrush, a DNA tested homozygous poll.
Volume buyers were Peter and Libby Hannegan, Lismore, who bought 10 Charolais for an average $5700. The draft included 24 month old Ascot Headline for $8000, which had a 130sq cm EMA and 43cm scrotal.
Acland Pastoral Co, Oakey, bought six Charolais for an average $4500.
Roma based Kindee Pastoral Co paid an average of $4400 for its five Angus.
Agents were Landmark, Elders, Colin Say and Co, and Mike Wilson Stud Stock. AuctionsPlus also operated at the sale.
