A Queenslander has taken out the top honour at the 2017 national finals in the Merino sheep young judges competition.
Matthew Baker, Barcaldine Downs, Barcaldine accepted his broad ribbon win in front of a large crowd at the Rural Ambassadors National Championships Merino sheep young judges competition held at Melbourne Royal Show on Monday.
Competition organisers said it was a huge honour and very competitive for young people to reach the national championships because several thousand young judges across Australia competed to gain entry to the competition with only seven Merino sheep young judges being selected at state finals across the country.
“Even the other competitors that didn’t place in the competition should be very proud to reach the highest level of this national young judges competition,” competition organisers said.
