Greenup Eidsvold Station Diamond Jubilee bull sale attracted a large number of cattle producers from across Queensland, Northern Territory and South Australia last Friday.
After 60 continuous years of holding Santa Gertrudis bull sales, Eidsvold Station recorded another successful sale especially with the dry conditions across many regions.
Almost 90 bid cards were registered for the Jubilee sale with 139 head of bulls penned for the sale.
Overall, 100 per cent clearance was achieved during the sale with ‘S” bulls selling for an average of $6,711 to gross $604,000 for a total of 90 head of classified Santa Gertrudis sold.
The top priced bull during the sale was Lot 14 Eidsvold Station Midas M64 (PP) for $16,000.
The sire was bought by Brendan and Fiona Kemp, Carramah, Capella through livestock agent’s TopX Roma.
Mr Kemp said the Eidsvold Station Midas bull was a homozygous polled, which was a real attraction for the family purchasing the sire.
“The bull is a very soft, easy doing type with a well hooded eye, dark coat and good bone,” Mr Kemp said.
The bull was sired by Eidsvold Station Epic E50 (P) (AI) out of an Eidsvold Station E299 (P) cow who's had five calves in five years with the bull being put to work this Spring in the Kemp family’s commercial cattle operation.
An equal second top price of $15,000 was reached twice during the Greenup Eidsvold Station Jubilee bull sale.
The first bull to reach $15,000 was Greenup Magistrate M140 (P) who was sired by Dangarfield Tycoon T190 (P) out of the Greenup Gumdrop G27 cow. The bull was purchased by Lawton & Lawton, Strathalbyn, Hannaford.
Greenup Eidsvold Station stud principal Rick Greenup said the bull was an absolute stunner and wished they’d kept him.
“Magistrate is a big boned, polled bull with great length. He's got the package - dark, slick coat, incredibly quiet temperament, soft fleshing, easy doing, terrific muscle and growth. Magistrates ranks in the breed’s top five per cent for eye muscle area,” Mr Greenup said.
The second bull to reach $15,000 was Lot 7 Greenup Mohawk M72 also sired by Dangarfield Tycoon T190 (P) out of Greenup Belle H33 cow and was bought by the McLoughlin family, Rainbow, Rolleston.
The bull’s dam Belle H33 first calved at two-years-old and has had three calves in four years.
