Yarrawonga & Waco Santa Gertrudis have achieved a national breed equal top price during it’s annual bull sale.
After a frenzy of bidding, Waco Floyd, owned by David and Suzanne Bassingthwaighte, sold to $90,000, equaling the highest price paid for a Santa Gertrudis bull in Australia, during the Bassingwaighte family’s bull sale at Wallumbilla in south west Queensland. The bull sold to the Hatton family, Diamond H Santa Gertrudis Stud, Wandoan.
The 31-month-old polled sire is by Waco Yale E880 (P) and out of Waco G885 (P) cow. The bull weighed 1070kg with an Eye Muscle Area of 148 centimetres squared and 10 millimetres of fat on the rump and 7 millimetres of fat on the rib area. The Bassingwaighte family, Waco Santa Gertrudis Studs, Wallumbilla will retain a 1/8 share in the bull for herd use only.
A second top priced bull, Yarrawonga M286, sold for $42,500 to the Prentice family, Emerald with the bull by impact sire Yarrawonga Corvette (P).
Overall, ‘S’ classified Santa bulls achieved a clearance rate of 95 per cent with an average of $10,780. The herd Santa bulls averaged $5045. The overall sale averaged $10,388 for all Santa Gertrudis bulls sold at the sale.
