Presenting their rams at home, in a picturesque garden setting, paid off for Barcaldine Downs manager, Duncan Ferguson, and his team, when they recorded a top price of $2200 at Friday’s sale.
It was paid by the Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges for an 82kg poll Merino ram with a fleece micron of 19.1, and Longreach spokesman Allycia Bennett said he appealed because of his beautiful frame and well-nourished wool.
He and a second ram, purchased for $1400, will be going into the Longreach Pastoral College’s stud program.
Barcaldine Downs recorded a $1062 average, and a 95 per cent clearance at the fall of hammer, and Duncan said it was the best clearance they’d ever had.
“People know we are committed to the wool industry here,” he said.
Grazing businesses from Corfield, Longreach, Muttaburra, Ilfracombe, Aramac, and Isisford were active at the sale.
