An unlikely team of wine stewards threw together a team for the Young Farmers Challenge but did not expect winning to be the outcome.
The team of four from Dingo, Proserpine and Tamborine did not disappoint winning the first round and the final of the competition.
Taking on eight obstacles and seven other teams, The Grape Growers team leader Ben Poschelk, said the feeling of victory was unlike no other.
“It is an amazing feeling – I don’t feel it often – but the feeling of winning the Queensland Young Farmers Challenge is awesome.
“To know we are going on to represent all of Queensland in the national finals and potentially the Commonwealth Games and maybe New Zealand – who knows.”
Mr Poschelk said his team was very slick throughout the competition.
“All of our team worked to their strengths and a lot of planning went into how we would attack this challenge,” he joked.
Although they had a slow start in the heat, the final proved their worth as the Grape Growers roped their cow first go – the inspiring handiwork of Mr Poschelk.
“It just comes naturally. I have a few children so I lasso them from time to time – this isn’t my first rodeo.”
