It was a 740 kilometre trip for the grand champion exhibit of the Simbrah breed at the Royal Queensland Show, but one that was well worth the time.
The Mobbs family’s two-and-half year old Gowrie Lucas bull won champion bull in the Simbrah judging ring and then went on to be named grand champion exhibit by judge David Reid from Kingaroy.
The impressive sire tipped the scales at 1146 kilograms with 13 millimetres of fat scanned on the rump and 10mm on the rib area, plus an Eye Muscle Area scan of 129 square centimeters.
Noel Mobbs, Gowrie Pastoral Company, Charleville said the champion bull’s dam was a high performing cow called Gowrie C249 in the Gowrie stud herd.
“This is the second time this bull has competed at Royal Queensland Show and he’s been shown by the Nudgee school’s cattle team for the past two years at different agricultural shows,” Mr Mobbs said.
Reserve champion bull was awarded to Gowrie Musket also from the Gowrie Simbrah Stud.
Champion cow or heifer went to an impressive 30-month-old maiden heifer called KBV Brasilia with a outstanding Simbrah calf at foot, Marta, who was exhibited by the KBV Simmental Stud.
KBV’s Marty Rowlands said Brasilia has performed well on this year’s show circuit winning champion tropical female at the 2017 Queensland Feature Show.
