The level of play is expected to be world class at this weekend’s Cunningham Polocrosse Club Carnival, as players travel from far and wide to contest the first Colliers International Gold Cup.
Colliers International Toowoomba has come on board as the major sponsor of the carnival, allowing the club to offer one of the largest prize packages for the Gold Cup in the history of polocrosse in Australia. The Colliers International Gold Cup is expected to attract top riders and horses from Queensland and other states as they battle for not only the win and prizes including an Australian Stockman’s Saddlery saddle valued at $3000 for the best horse and rider, but also club pride.
Former polocrosse player Brad Lipp, known as the Land Man, from Colliers International Toowoomba has been instrumental in organising the sponsorship package for Cunningham Polocrosse Carnival. Mr Lipp’s love for the sport, the family atmosphere of the game and the values of the polocrosse community was the incentive for Colliers International to become a major sponsor for the club.
In conjunction with the Colliers International Gold Cup, Cunningham Polocrosse Club will host Open, Mixed and Junior competitions at Bony Mountain Reserve. The carnival is expected to attract more than 50 teams, with many horses and riders at peak fitness as the season nears its end. With only one more club carnival in the South East Zone before the Queensland State Titles, many clubs will use Cunningham’s Carnival as a platform to perfect teams before the State Competition.
The canteen and bar will operate over the weekend including nightly meals and entertainment. Camping facilities are available for those who want to make a weekend of it.
Play will kick off at 8am on both days at Bony Mountain Reserve.
The last carnival of South East Zone’s 2017 Polocrosse season will be Warwick Polocrosse Club’s IOR Petroleum Rose Bowl at Morgan Park the next weekend.
Polocrosse is a great spectator sport. It presents an incomparable athletic challenge involving speed and stamina, and also demands lightning quick reflexes in both horse and rider. It is one of only three sports that Australia can truly claim as its own; the others being Australian rules football and campdrafting.
Being a sport the whole family can play, polocrosse caters for everyone from the expert 'A Grade' and elite player to the once a year 'casual' player. Polocrosse is one of the few sports where male and female players can compete equally in the same team.
