HONG Kong headquartered company MF Jebsen Group has bought the South Australian pastoral property Martins Well Station on a walk in, walk out basis for $5.975 million.
Offered by the Fargher family, 105,000 hectare (259,461 acre) property located 90km northeast of Hawkerwas offered with about 6000 Merino sheep and 500 Poll Hereford cattle at a Landmark Harcourts auction
Landmark Harcourts auctioneer Simon McIntyre said Martin Wells had generated very strong interest with parties registered from four states.
“The station was particularly well presented in all aspects and has the benefit of an outstanding water supply,” Mr McIntyre said.
Bidding started at $4m and progressed rapidly to the knock down price in front of a crowd of 130 people at the Standpipe Motor Inn at Port Augusta.
The MF Jebsen Group’s is involved in property, insurance, shipping, airline representation, travel and tourism. According to its website the family-owned business with a history of continuous involvement in China since Jacob Jebsen and Heinrich Jessen started a trading company in Hong Kong in 1895.
Martins Well has a maximum stock rating of 12,900 sheep equivalents set by the SA Pastoral Board.
It is open plains country dominated by low blue bush, cotton bush, and black bush leading on to Mitchell grass plains. There are small sections of low rocky hills but offers two main drainage systems running through and on the station.
Wilpena Creek runs west east and flows out to the alluvial plains with additional Red Gum water courses. The other main section comprises of low undulating plains with acacia, prickly wattle, bladder salt bush, blue bush and some mulga.
The improvements are dominated by the five bedroom stone and brick home. There is also an historic stone shearers’ quarters, a two bedroom cottage, additional outbuildings and a hanger. There is also a seven-stand shearing shed and five sets of sheep yards and a set of cattle yards.
