THE Monto Show was a big affair for Irene Bishop, taking home a win in the prime cattle section, and having a cattle ramp named after her late husband, Graham Bishop.
Mrs Bishop, Wanora, Monto, said all four of her daughters were at the official opening of the ramp, although two now live in the Toowoomba region.
She said the Bishop family had a very long involvement with the Monto Show.
“We’ve been locals for a long time and always coming to the show,” she said.
“I read in a paper the other day that Graham had put a Guernsey heifer in when he was 12 years old. He was always involved with the show.”
Mrs Bishop said the winning steer was her favorite and also selected by her son-in-law.
Prime cattle judge Laura Grubb, Teys Biloela, agreed and said the steer was an excellent carcase-style steer.
“He carried plenty of muscle over his whole carcase with plenty of softness and it’ll be exciting to see him hang up and see how he turns out,” she said.
Mrs Bishop said the win was a big honour, and said it was very fitting to take home the top prize on the same day Graham would be honoured for all his years of work with the show movement.”
