Numbers continue to flow from north western and central western Queensland. Roma Saleyards manager Paul Klar told me that agents had drawn for 7400 cattle at this week’s sale.
Blackall agents told me that they expect to yard 1000 fat cattle and 2000 store cattle at this week’s regular sale, and a top line up of cattle is expected.
GDL, St George advised that John Southern, Tippendale South, St George will offer on AuctionsPlus on Friday April 21, six decks of Santa Angus cross heifers (three decks 260 -330kg and three decks 330 – 430kg) and six decks of Santa Angus cross steers (three decks 260 – 330kg and three decks 330 – 430kg). These will be an excellent draft of cattle.
Speaking to producers across the Maranoa and Western Downs this week and most are well off for feed and water with most happy with conditions. A number of oat growers would love to see a fall of rain over their oat country to seal it off and enable the secondary roots to get into the subsoil.
Ryan Dellit, Graham Henderson & Co, Dalby reported a small increase in numbers at the Dalby sale on April 12 to a combined yarding of 3716. Ryan said their cattle were drawn from Thargomindah, Alpha, Moonie, Kingaroy, Chinchilla and local areas. In the export grades only a limited supply of bullocks were penned, selling to a firm market. Good numbers of cows were penned meeting strong competition, with demand from both processors and restockers selling to a solid market. Medium and heavy weight steers to feed continued to meet a firm market on the previous week’s levels with any price changes due to quality. Good numbers of store cattle were penned for the second round, again with a large panel of restockers present and keen to purchase. Ryan said some of the outstanding sales were: Mick and Marie Gibson, Bulloo Downs, Thargomindah sold Angus cross steers 300c for $1910/head. Bill and Delta Sparks, Niagra, Bell sold Droughtmaster feeder steers 342c for $1645/h. Brian and Arlie Wormwell, Monivae, Moonie sold Simbrah cows 257c for $1459/h.
Ashley Loveday, Elders Dalby told me on Tuesday that the Mills family, Myendetta, Charleville consigned over 500 steers and heifers to Dalby on April 12. Ashley described the cattle as good quality Angus Santa cross weaners. The steer portion averaged 241.5kg for an average of 425.7c for an average of $1027/head. The heifer portion averaged 226kg and averaged 365c for $826/head average. Ashley said the Elders, Dalby Feeder Sale is on April 28, with $30,000 in prizes.
Terry Ryan, Landmark, Chinchilla expected Dalby to yard around 4000 head this Wednesday. He said the country on the Western Downs is as good as he has seen it.
