CITY men spend their weekends lifting weights at the gym, country fellas spend it carrying their wives.
Yes, you read the headline correctly.
Roma’s Easter in the Country featured a jam packed four day weekend of events and this year’s program included a wife carrying race.
The popular sport in Northern England and Europe sees a man carrying a woman, preferably his wife, over an obstacle course.
The “international competition rules” state that the wife must weigh at least 49kg, anything under will see the wife given extra weight to carry.
The most effective racing technique, the Estonian Carry, is done so that the wife’s legs hang over the husband’s shoulders and her “buttocks points to the heavens”.
Why on earth would you do it you ask? The champion team walks away with the wife’s weight in beer.
This year’s event held at Basset Park was won by Alex and Sophie.
