Heavy steers make 279c at Roma prime sale


Today's Roma prime sale yarded a total of 859 head of cattle with heavy steers making 279c/kg to average 264c.


A total yarding of 859 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s prime sale on Thursday, March 16. Steers over 550kg sold to 279c/kg and averaged 264c, while steers in the 400-550kg sold to 276c and averaged 256c. LR&SE Laycock, Cedars, Injune, sold Charbray steers to 279c for 578kg to return $1615.

I&M Campbell, St Lucia, Boulia, sold Brangus steers to 276c for 540kg to return $1491. Heifers over 450kg made to 259c and averaged 245c, while heifers in the 350-450kg sold to 245c, averaging 222c. Cows over 500kg peaked at 236c and averaged 219c, while cows in the 400-500kg class topped at 226c and averaged 209c.

Cows 300-400kg sold to 218c/kg and averaged 182c/kg. S&R White Family Trust, Tarree Bar, Roma, sold an Angus-cross cow for 236c for 750kg to return $1771. Tomcat Rural, Balgownie, Roma, sold Droughtmaster-cross cows to 230c for 550kg to return $1266. Tarabah Grazing Co, Tarabah, Tambo, sold Red Poll cows to 226c for 594kg to return $1343.

CJ, JM & DT Coggan, Sherwood, Injune, sold Santa-cross cows to 225c for 599kg to return $1348. Gingie Pastoral Co, Oak Park Station, Charleville, sold Brahman cows to 225c for 559kg to return $1258. EJ&CF Rolfe, Marie Downs, Roma, sold Brahman-cross cows to 224c for 578kg to return $1296. Bulls over 600kg earned to 250c and averaged 227c.
