THEY were off and racing at Bell last Saturday, when perfect weather and a five-race program attracted a record crowd.
Bell Race Club President Darryl Ramsay said the conditions were great and the whole community reaped the benefits.
“It was great to see our expectations well and truly exceeded, with well over a thousand race enthusiasts,” he said.
“We had a strong race program and when you combine that with good sponsorship and good weather, you end up getting good crowds.
“There was a real ‘celebration’ atmosphere with market and food stalls adding to the small festival feel of the day.
“Eastern Rural sponsored a marquee and we had people travel from all over to partake in the activities.”
Fashions of the Field Coordinator and well-respected local teacher Kirsten Todd said judging of the event was made very difficult, due to the high-standard of the entrants.
“Certainly, the people of Bell and our welcomed guests to the club know how to dress well,” she said.
“We had at least 100 entrants and it was very difficult to choose winners.”
