The Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) is a world leading producer of grass fed, grain fed and Wagyu beef, supplying high quality brands to premium Australian restaurants and to more than 20 countries around the world.
With stations, farms and feedlots across Queensland and the Northern Territory, AACo offers a wide variety of career opportunities through their operations.
George Hassett was just out of school when he began his career with AACo in 2011 as a station hand. Over the past five years he has held the position at Brunette Downs and Wondoola Stations, and progressed to head stockperson at Brunette Downs in the Northern Territory, 660kms North West of Mount Isa.
“Working on a cattle station in the Northern Territory is something I have wanted to do since I was young. There isn’t anything like it, anywhere else,” George said.
“I never dreamed I would be a head stockperson, but AACo gives you all the training and skills to develop into other positions,” he said.
In early 2016 George shared his knowledge as a mentor at the annual AACo Orientation Week, which focuses on training the core competencies that new team members require.
“The most rewarding part is seeing the transformation of first years from the start of the year, and watching them to go on to become good stock handlers and horse and motor bike riders.
“It is a great feeling too when they stay on another year and work with you.”
Five years on, George is just as enthusiastic as ever, and encourages others to sign up for the Australian experience with AACo.
“Go for it, you’ll have a ball, and you won’t regret it.
“It’s a totally different lifestyle.”
AACo invites you to share the Australian experience and grow your career. A safe work environment, competitive pay, training, and transfer opportunities are provided as well as the opportunity to build a rewarding, progressive career and to be a leader in an exciting and dynamic industry.
