IT WAS the Lindana/Jenalan Bazadais Stud open day yesterday in Muldilgie, and stud principal Lindsay Penney said the day was a great success.
While bulls and females were available for purchase on the day, the open day focussed mostly on promoting the breed and giving potential buyers a chance to come and speak to the principals and other Bazadais breeders.
Mr Penney said he was pleased with the turnout.
“It was quite a good day, we got good feedback and a few good sales,” he said.
Of three females available for purchase yesterday, two were sold, and of the 12 bulls available, three were sold, but Mr Penney said one buyer was interested in coming back to arrange a purchase for the remaining bulls.
“There was great interest in the bulls and the females,” Mr Penney said.
“People came from Moonie, Alpha, Clermont, Capella and all over.”
The open day does not focus on sales, and Mr Penney said the family liked to offer a “casual, relaxed day”.
“There’s not all the hustle and bustle, people can come and poke around, have a chat and just catch-up with people,” he said.
The stud operates on a total of 600ha, and has between 100 and 150 breeders in the stud herd.
Mr Penney said the family are gradually growing their numbers, and hope to offer about 30 bulls next year.
He said the family are considering combining a Helmsman sale with the open day next year.
