Classified Santa Gertrudis bulls sold to $50,000 twice on the way to setting a phenomenal average of $10, 646 at last week’s annual Santa Central Sale, Clifton. The sale saw unled 'S' bulls hit $31,000 while their purebred counterparts climbed to $12,000.
The sale featured a three state buyers panel, a large contingent of seedstock addresses and prominent commercial producers resulting in 78 males averaging $10,269 to top at $50,000 twice. One female sold for $9500 while another feature of the sale was the offering of a flush that fetched $11,000. Proceedings kicked off with 33 led bulls from the recent highly successful RNA show team that averaged a hefty $15,242. Among all these impressive figures affordability remains a drawcard with 42 per cent of the yarding selling for $5000 or less.
Setting the pace were two New South Wales prefixes, the Warenda and Hardigreen Park Studs,
Warenda Killimanjaro (P) (30-months, 1118kg, 136EMA) sold in a three-quarter share full procession arrangement to the Hatton family, Santa Hat Stud, Monto. Offered by Sylvia Kirkby, Warenda Stud, Narrabri, Killimanjaro is a son of Warenda Charlton whose seven sons averaged $15,043. Losing bidder on Killimanjaro was Tom Dunlop and family, Munnabah Stud, Coolah. Warenda averaged $15,590 for their 10 bulls. That figure included the top selling purebred entry at $12,000, a 29-month-old Yarrawonga Brewster son selling to the Nowley Pastoral Company, Burren Junction, NSW.
Minutes later Russell and Trish Pearson, Bull Creek Stud, McKinlay outlaid the same amount to secure the 24-month, 1049kg, 136EMA, Hardigreen Park Summit (P) from Moreton and Frances Rolfe’s, Hardigreen Park Stud, Wallabadah, NSW. Losing bidder on Summit (Drensmaine Apex) was Russell family, Swan Hill Stud, Blackall. Four sons of Apex averaged $21,875 that included a trio of ‘S’ sons that set a $27,667 medium. Moreton and Frances Rolfe, Hardigreen Park Stud, Wallabadah, NSW achieved a $13, 818 medium for their 11 ‘S’ bulls.
Top selling unled bull at $31,000 was Glenn Oaks K82 (P) (24-months, 957kg) (Waco Attorney). Offered by Scott and Wendy Ferguson, Glenn Oaks Stud, Nobby, he sold to Ray Humphries, Welbatch Stud, Mummulgum, Casino, NSW. Glenn Oaks averaged $15,364 for their 11 entries. Included in that result were four by Attorney setting a $16,250 average. The Glenn Oaks result included $38,000 for the 25-month-old, 951kg, Lionheart (PS) selling to Hardigreen Park Stud.
Another to invest in the Glenn Oaks draft were Nigel and Toni Sharpe, Bunda Stud, Goondiwindi outlaying $24,000 for the 22-month-old, Glenn Oaks Livingston (P). Glenn Oaks Lavasha (P), 21-months, an RNA class winner, sold for $9500 going to the Munnabah Stud, while the Tiller family, Goolagong Stud, Warnertown, SA claimed the $11,000 flush in the feature and Royal Show champion, Glenn Oaks Kismit.
Goolagong Stud sold four bulls setting a $22,375 average. This included a $30,000 price tag for the RNA Reserve Senior Champion, the 1100kg, 28-month-old, 138EMA, Kakadu, selling to Phillip Kirkby, Wave Hill Stud, Narrabri. Attracting the same figure was another entrant, Legend, selling to the Anderson family’s Brookside Stud, Armidale, NSW. Glenn Oaks Stud outlaid $20,000 for Leopard, the Reserve Junior Champion at the 2016 RNA.
Andrew and Jules Orman, Benelkay Stud, Mullaley, NSW secured the $18,000 Burramurra 152 (P), 23-months, (Waco Chevron) offered by Mark Bazley, Mathoura, NSW. Another from Burramurra was the $10,000, Burramurra 154 (P) (Chevron) selling to the Sherd family's Glen Vista Stud, Ballengarra, NSW.
Andrew and Fiona Bassingthwaighte, Yarrawonga Stud, Wallumbilla selected three to average $12,000, topping at $14,000 for Hardigreen Park Storm (P), 27-months, while David and Suzanne Bassingthwaighte, Waco Stud, Mungalla picked up the $22,000 Hardigreen Park Signal (P), 24-months.
Santa Hat selected three to average them $22,000, while Diamond H principals Roger and Shane Hatton, Chinchilla returned to take five for a $13,900 average. Top of their haul was the $22,000, 23-month-old, Glenn Oaks Kingsburg (P) offered by Phoebe, Sophie and Lilly Ferguson.
Charlie Clark Eurumbah, Roma parted with $10,000 for the 24-month-old, Hardigreen Park Safari (P) while the Lindemann family, Linlands Stud, Toowoomba claimed the $20,000 Warenda K12 (P) (Warenda Denver). The Courts family, Glenalbyn Stud, Wellington, NSW took the $14,000 Warenda K14 (P). Another investor in the Warenda draft was the Tee Vee Stud, Comet operated Ken and Evelyn O’Brien, Comet taking the $21,000 Warenda K8 (P) (Warenda Denver), 30-months.
Peter and Shari Knudsen, Coondarra, Chinchilla returned taking five to average $5300, while the Masterton family, Wyandotte Station, Greenvale returned to take another four to average $4750. Clark and Tait, Enniskillen Pastoral Company, Boongoondoo, Jericho signed off on three to average $10,334. Whalan Partnership, Torquay, Garah, NSW selected five to average $3600. Ken Knudsen, Kilbeggan, Chinchilla paid on average $5334 for his trio while the Hampson family, Monto picked up three to average $6000.
