CHAROLAIS bulls sold to a top of $10,000 to average $4579 at the annual Lilydale invitational sale conducted by Boyd O’Brien Bartholomew at Toogoolawah on Saturday.
Involving the Lilydale, RNJ’s, Bird Hill and Trevlac Charolais studs, a total 38 bulls sold for an average $4579 to gross $174,000. A draft of 10 Lilydale heifers also averaged $1635.
Sale topper was Bird Hill Kindle (TR Red Smoke PMC316641/Bird Hill Gayle) from Jim and Janice Spreadborough West Blenheim-based stud. The well, constructed, long bodied 22-month-old poll went to the Brennan family from Beaudesert who will join mostly Charolais to about 900 red and grey Brahman cows this season. The progeny from the Beaudesert operation are finished on then Brennan’s Taroom property Parraweena and typically sold to Teys Australia. Kindle entered the sale ring at 805kg and had a 118cm eye muscle area (EMA), 14mm of fat at the P8 and 38cm scrotal circumference.
Also in the money at $9000 was Bird Hill Kojac, which sold to Scott Beitzel, Gilla Station, Blackbutt. The 23-month-old weighed 960kg and had a 132cm EMA, 8mm P8 and 37cm scrotal measurement. Gilla also bought the red factor bull Bird Hill Katmandu with a 130cm EMA for $4000.
Rodney Cahill, Carinya, Lamington, bought one for $7000 and a second for $5500. The first was the 21-month-old poll RNJ’s Johnny by RNJ’s Psyclone. Johnny, who was offered by Rod and Janelle Freeman, Tallegalla, had a 130cm EMA, 13mm P8, and 38cm scrotal. The second was Trevlac Kize offered by Mel and Lyn Freeman, Rosevale. The 23-month-old had a 130cm EMA, 8mm P8, and 42cm scrotal.
Reid Radel, Taroom, paid $7000 for the poll RNJ’s Loredo by the full French sire Silverstream Performer. The 850kg 17-month-old had a 126cm EMA, 9mm P8, and 37cm scrotal. Mr Radel also bought the 16-month-old yearling bull RNJ’s Lincoln for $4500. Lincoln had a 126cm EMA, an 11mm P8, and 38cm scrotal.
Dick Baker, Relesah Pastoral Company, Dayboro, paid $7000 for Lilydale Kopy Kat by Ayr Baltimore’s Elbe. The 23-month-old offered by Ross Sticklen, Lilydale, Helidon, had a 123cm EMA, 7mm P8, and 37cm scrotal.
Paul Clarkson, Delcosta, Linville, paid $6500 for the Bird Hill Kimba. That 870kg poll bull had a 136cm EMA, 4mm P8, and 40cm scrotal.
Inverstanley Pastoral, Esk, paid $6500 Bird Hill Kelvin (Sunnygrove Fortress/Bird Hill Emily). That 865kg poll bull had a 133cm EMA, 5mm P8, and 38cm scrotal.
John and Estelle Drynan, Gallinanni, Esk, also paid $6500 for Bird Hill Kayak (Branch View Forged From Steel/Bird Hill Queen Bee). The red factor bull came into the sale weighing 820kg had a 131cm EMA, 7mm P8, and 39cm scrotal.
The Davis family, Devon Hills, Moore, bought RNJ’s Kakadu (Trevlac Freeway/RNJ’s April Gem) for $4500. Peter Murray, Bromelton, also paid the same money for the 23-month-old Lilydale Kit (Ayr Baltimore’s Elbe/Lilydale Elegance). TK Pix Family Trust, Ferny Glen, Canungra, also paid $4500 for Lilydale Kaptain (Lilydale Dare Devil/Lilydale Patsy 2). Michael Conroy, Bryden, paid $4500 for the poll red factor bull Bird Hill Ketchup (Gauguin/Bird Hill Rita).
Volume buyers were Andrew and Sheree Grieve, Colinton, bought six for an average $3667 including the $5000 Lilydale Knightly. The 23-month-old by Sedalia Rascal had a 120cm EMA, 5mm P8 and 37cm scrotal.
