THE race day of the southwest, the XXXX Gold Roma Cup was an almighty occasion, with nearly 9000 visiting Roma's Bassett Park last Saturday.
The Qantaslink/Black Toyota Fashions on the Field event showcased a competitive display of creative and colourful outfits presented by Charlie Blomfield and Katelyn Maclean and judged by Sarah Taylor, Roger Whyte and Kathy Corones.
Winners of the ladies classic fashion, Alex Hindle, and runner-up, Jacquetta Arnold, proved their nose for style as well-versed fashionistas, having both won the prize in past years for their gorgeous outfits.
It was a great chance for locals to catch up at the 28th Annual Roma Cup Luncheon with many young faces from the district attending.
The seven-race day program drew plenty of punters and a packed grandstand all trying their luck throughout the day to pick a winner.

The final race, the XXXX Gold Desiree Gill Memorial Roma Cup drew a crowd of spectators to the fence cheering on the favourite Jack and Me, who claimed victory ridden by Lyall Appo and trained by Mark Goodwin.
Roma local Donal Hancock returned from the USA just in time to wow the crowd with a spectacular display of Roman riding, standing on two horses as they cantered down the track.
The Machinery Bar hosted the Roma Cup band ‘Golden Child’ that entertained race goers both Friday and Saturday night, attracting a good crowd to the dancefloor.
The Roma Cup president Ranald Ferrier and his wife Sally, along with secretary, Jackie Erickson, and all other committee members have worked tirelessly for many years to build a highly successful race meeting that continues to get better each year.
