DALBY agents recorded their largest offering since July, with 5695 head of cattle yarded today for the final sale of 2013.
A highlight of the sale is a line of 238 trade steers, which will be offered this afternoon by the Barlow family, Wyadrigah Pastoral Company, Mungindi, NSW.
The Santa and Santa/Charolais steers are expected to make between 185c-190c/kg.
Grant, Daniel and Long agent Brendan Gilliland said there was a big spread of cattle from the far west through to the local area.
“A few cattle are coming onto the market a little earlier due to the three to four week gap and the Darling Downs still hasn’t an immense amount of rain,” he said.
“The cow job looks to be possibly 8c to 10c/kg cheaper in areas, with plainer cows holding reasonably firm.
“There’s a good run of cattle today for the last sale.”
Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service reported plain conditioned young cattle dominated the selling pens and there were a reduced number of heavy grown steers, bullocks and cows.
Mediumweight C2 yearling steers to feeders were up 6c to sell at an average price of 190c, while heavyweight C3 lines to processors lifted 4c to return 191c.
Mediumweight C2 and 3 yearling heifers to feeder buyers slipped 12c to 17c to settle on an average of 157c.
Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter eased 9c to 189c while the C4 bullocks also slipped 9c to average 185c.
