A shade under 1700 head were auctioned at Tenterfield on Thursday with weaner heifers proving strongest on the day, driven by Queensland demand with buyers from Meandarra and Roma dominating the bids.
Some 850 weaner steers made 297-363 cents per kilogram $543 – $1284. Yearling steers, 119, made 275-315c/kg or $808-$1338.
Weaner Heifers, 598, brought 280-335c/kg or $597 – $1125. Yearling heifers delivered 252-295c/kg or $685 – $884.

Black Baldy calves sold 338c/kg – 351c/kg. Weaner steers to 330kg topped at 356c/kg to average 342c/kg, Black Baldies 319c/kg – 338c/kg.
Light Angus heifers 280c/kg – 312c/kg. Black Baldy heifers 297c/kg to 302c/kg.

Angus heifers from Milton and Margaret Barratt, “Lyndale” Tenterfield, topped the females and nearly the sale, selling for 310c/kg or $1125 to Casino buyer Marcus McCormack for Queensland Wagyu producer Jim Jones, Ayre, who will use the top breeders as embryo recipients.
Another a pen of Angus by the Barratts, who use Sara Park and Speriby North sires, sold for 335c//kg at 323kg or $1082 and went to Geoff White, Coraki via Lismore.
The couple also made top dollar for their steers, selling to $1294 and averaging $1169 for 73 head.
George and Helen Mulherin, Tenterfield, sold Angus steers with Booroomooka and KO blood to a top of $1181 for 357kg at 331c/kg to buyer Keiran te Velde, Bob Jamieson Agencies, Inverell, for backgrounding at Rivendell to help satisfy what is expected to be a short-supply winter feeder market.
Champion Angus steers by Geoff and Yendis Johnson, Geroma Partnership, Tenterfield sold for $978 going to Inverell.
Champion non-black steers, black baldies, by Col Cowan, Tenterfield, sold for $1001 also to Jamieson agencies while another pen, 260kg at 351c/kg went for $912 to buyer John Hurtz purchasing for centenarian client Muriel Murphy, who has instructed Mr Hurtz to grow them out to bullocks for export, in a system she has managed for many years.
Top Hereford steers from Jim Koch, Tenterfield, 262kg sold for 297c/kg to make $778.
Best Shorthorn by Pete and Sally Prosser, Tenterfield, 311kg made $976 going to Meandarra, Qld.
Brahman/ Hereford steers by Colin and Helen Chevalley, Timbarra, made $771 and went to Casino through George and Fuhrmann.
Older steers, milk tooth, sold to $1338 for Angus 436kg at 307c/kg from Lex and Lorna Patterson, Legume, going to Whyalla feedlot near Texas, Qld.
Allan Sweeney, Rocky River, sold similar milktooth Angus, 424kg, for $1318 also going to Whyalla.
Volume buyer across all pens was Grant Daniel Long, Meandarra, while Ray While Roma also filled some trucks for clients keen to take advantage of an autumn break.
The sale was run by Harold Curry agency, Tenterfield, with Matthew Duff taking the bids.
